I think I developed an irrational hatred for windows after using Ubuntu for a while.

Oh......the ubuntu haters unite I suppose. I love my ubuntu. I have consoles for gaming. And you really think there is so much you need windows for? Dualboot. And 7 blew XP out of the water.

Yes, i had Win XP for 5 years on my old PC and never a crash or troubles. Since about 1.5 years i use Win7 Ultimate on my new PC and have no troubles too. Microsoft has learned its lessons (except the troubles with the infamous Vista)... and since a few months i have Ubuntu on my PC (now dualboot) too... works fine too!

I have a Mac now. Got it last year in June and I love it! It's the Macbook Pro 2011 edition. You should get one. I have tried Ubuntu. For fun. But never liked it. My daily programs weren't for Linux. Like Minecraft :D

I have just "Ubuntu-rized" the old XP-computer of my dad. It was an old Pentium 4 with only 256MB RAM, but Oneiric Ocelot runs well on it, way slower than Ubuntu on my actual i7-960-PC, but faster than the previous Win XP on it. To be honest, the old PC wasn't started since 2008 anymore, and i was surprised, that it still started up without any problems after this long time. Win XP made 83(!) Updates and Service-Pack 3, but i still wanted to try Ubuntu on it.
I never used OS X so far, only iOS on my iPad ;-)

Well, it's the most stable Windows there is, at least. I use it for my MagicJack anyway.... ;)

As for this piece of art ...... Well it should be framed and hung right next to the Mona Lisa .... or maybe displayed next to the Holy Bible !!!!! IT is true a pic is worth a 1000 words .... except the only ones thats gonna get this pic is the ones that been " Un-plugged "

I have been using Ubuntu off and on for about a year and its great I use it on a thumb drive using Moka5 then when im at home I plug it into my Mac and run it and get all of my info I need .... you have to have Vmware Fusion
which I think is the best I have used parallels and it was like vista ..... looks good but not very productive.

I found Moka5 and I knew right off the bat that Vmware was it. LONG LIVE THE APPLE PENGUINS !

My story is a little different, I went from Vista to Ubuntu, but I installed Ubuntu inside Vista, for the, you know, Vista-only applications.

it's great until you realise there's a lot of software you need and can now not use

You know drakoumelitos personally? if you don't then how the hell do you know what he _needs_?

A lot of what people assume the need, they only desire because of a level of comfort and familiarity. If we're talking about functionality linux OS's have windows and mac beat.

lol guyz dont argue Amazed
i am still using Ubuntu may go to debian or sthing but i rly dont miss XP at all!! there is always a program in ubuntu that can replace the XP one and ofcourse i use Wine.
problem is linux are better for multitasking and faster that my job needs and actually it never crashes.. numerus times in my job the XP crashed and lost my time .
ubuntu are open so noone wants to make em worse tho windows is a company that puts profit over quality

so what if you're a member of an onling community, the client for which only runs on windows, what would you do then Mr.functionality?

Ah well, the internet is based on open standards most of which come from RFCs (email), the W3C (http/html) and other various standards orgs.

The problem with that "online community" is that it probably uses some bogus none standard protocol which is used to lock it's members into a specific client. Ultimately this is foolish though since it will bite you in the behind when your lord and masters come to add spyware and/or start charging for the use of the client.

Why not use a xmpp/jabber based community service instead? I'm sure you'd get more linux versions of your community tool that way.

Not that I care how people foolishly castrate themselves.

you misunderstood me, when I said client, I meant more along the lines of a downloaded game, there's no version for any linux and the mac version has limitations because it was made by a university student

Can't you ask for the source code and then compile it for Linux or Mac? or ask someone else to help you? or even pay someone to port it? Will it not run in Wine? will it not run in CrossOver?

What have you tried?

i dunno about that. i've been using ubuntu only for over a year on the job and can count on one hand the times i *had* to have windows software because there wasn't an open-source alternative...
